Stomach Flu,….Really?

stomach_flu_norovirus

In 1839 someone shortened the word influenza to flu. According to the Merck Manual of Medical Information, “influenza (flu) is infection of the lungs and airways with one of the influenza viruses causing a fever, runny nose, sore throat, and a general feeling of illness (malaise).” What does this have to do with your stomach or any other part of the digestive track?  Who makes this terminology up?  It is important to get the language down correctly because stomach flu is what many people have named an actual condition called gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is inflammation of the lining of the stomach and intestinal tract, a condition … [Read more...]

The Day Hand Sanitizer Jumped The Shark?

the_day_hand_sanitizer_jumped_the_shark

If you are long in the tooth enough to remember the incredibly popular 1970s sitcom Happy Days, you might remember the classic episode where the iconic character Fonzi, played by Henry Winkler, was water skiing and jumped a shark while wearing his trademark black leather bomber jacket. This jumping of the shark marked the beginning of the end for the incredibly popular sitcom.  Jumping the shark has become synonymous with loss of momentum; the finality of life of the entity. The concessions at Notre Dame Stadium are old, cramped, dirty, and lack any type of modern comforts that a stadium built today … [Read more...]

chiropractor_adjustment_hand_washing

Chiropractic therapy is the third largest doctored profession in the U.S. behind medicine and dentistry. At any given time, 6% to 12% of the population utilizes chiropractic care in the U.S. and Canada. UFE (Urine Feces Everywhere) received a correspondence from a chiropractic patient asking that we look into the hand sanitation practices of chiropractors. She stated that when she visits the Chiropractor he never sanitizes his hands or the adjustment table. The doctor always changes the face paper on the adjustment table, but she observes no other form of sanitation. "Shouldn’t I be a little nervous about the previous patients … [Read more...]
