Pray the Germs Away

Pray The Germs Away

Body and blood of Christ, bacteria and viruses of your neighbor: I am a Catholic and like other Catholics, go to church on Sundays and participate in the mass ceremonies.  I have been a practicing catholic all my life.  I can remember when I was a child however, and I had to wake up early on Sundays and wear my dress clothes (not a dress) to church.  I would be tired from the night before, but over time I came to appreciate Sunday mass. For those of you who do not have time or do not want to go to church, all I can say is that it is a wonderful place to reflect on things in your life and to be close to the ones you love.  Everyone … [Read more...]

Hand Sanitizers: Is 99.99% Enough?

hand-sanitizer

There is a claim, printed on all bottles of hand sanitizer's on retail shelves around the world, that these products “kill 99.99% of germs.” Purell, Germ-X, CVS generic Walgreen's generic, Nexcare, and many others all say the same thing: 99.99% A high number, to be sure, but is it enough? These miraculous gels or foams contain the active ingredient ethyl alcohol at a 60-70% concentration. This element is responsible for the death of 99.99% of all bacteria that comes in contact with human skin. Ethyl alcohol, ethanol, kills many microbes; in doing so, though, ethyl alcohol can cause skin to dry out. This drying of the skin leads to … [Read more...]

shopping_cart-350x350

What began as an idea from Sylvan Goldman in the late 1930's ended in  probably the most recognized part of the shopping experience; the shopping cart.  In Goldman's store, the Piggly Wiggly, the shopping cart allowed patrons to carry more items than their hands could hold.  When you go to your local grocery store, take a quick peek at how many carts you see in the parking lot and in the store. For the sake of argument, let’s estimate 100 carts for your local grocery store patrons to use; any patron, any time, including those still in diapers. When you grab a cart and make your way through the store, something else is traveling just … [Read more...]

Purse

How many times do you see a woman without a purse?  Probably not too often I’m betting. The purse serves the important purpose of keeping the day organized with cell phones, checkbooks, money, make-up, etc.  It is a very similar situation as with men, who are almost never without a  wallet. Purses are fashionable and come in a variety of sizes, styles, colors, and fabrics.  Regardless of the type of purses women have, they (for the most part) go to the same locations with their purses such as; work, church, store, car, bathroom, etc. A woman will probably set her purse down at some point during the day, such as on the counter … [Read more...]

Bowling: Life in the gutters, germs on the balls

Bowling Balls

Though bowling has hit a decline since its Golden Ages of the 1940's to 1960's, it’s still a popular sport and Friday-night activity in the United States. And just like any sport, every bowler needs to be properly equipped.  Like a Samurai and his sword, a bowling ball is a bowler’s weapon; so picking the right ball may take some time. Most bowling alleys are kind enough to offer a large variety of bowling balls for their patrons to choose from, and you can test them all out to see which one is the best fit for you. While you pick up ball after ball to test, though, you may be picking up a bit more than you bargained for. Just picking … [Read more...]
