“Competition for the Same Objective or for Superiority in the Same Field”
Chicago has one of the greatest rivalries in sports; Chicago Cubs vs Chicago White Sox. Even before their first encounter on the field in 1906, there was tension between the teams. Although the teams themselves have had exchanges with words (and a few punches as well), the rivalry is even stronger between fans of both teams.
For those of you who are of the fan-base of either team, or if you have been in the company of a fan from either team; you have most likely witnessed some of this tension. When you have a “Northsider”, the
cubs, and a “Southsider” the White Sox, in the same room, the words “Stink” and “Trash” are among the most popular words used in the heated exchange between the two sides. A “Northsider” may say, “Southsiders stink” or maybe a Southsider says something like, “Northsiders are trash.”
Now, although we can observe the rest of the games played from here on or count tickets sales or merchandise sales of either team to determine a “winner”; let’s try something else. What if those words “Stink” and “Trash” had more meaning behind them and some proof to back up those comments?
Our UFE (Urine Feces Everywhere) team data collectors decided to do some research of our own and came up to a conclusion that will make some of you very happy and some very upset. Since the focus of this story stemmed from fans calling each other words associated with the word “dirty”, why not try to pinpoint a well-known dirty hot spot for these fans. If you said the parking lot, you’re wrong (but maybe another article for another time); the answer is the restrooms!
Now, before you get all high and mighty and tell us that we are creeping in the restrooms and looking under stales and such… don’t, because that’s creepy and I’m pretty sure illegal. What we did was observe a very simple task which has been passed down from generation to generation, WASHING YOUR HANDS! Our team took a predetermined number of men and women and observed them either stopping at the sink to wash their hands, or observed them walking right past the sink area and right out the door.
Let me first start and say thank you to all the ladies in the world for washing your hands more than men (at least in this situation). Guys, really… I mean I know that you probably have a drink in one hand and can’t multi-task to save your life, but come on! A very poor performance from the men, but all around there was one fan base which was the overall winner in this round.
And the winner is: The Chicago White Sox because the Cubs FANS play dirty (UFE)

Really!?!? I always try to wash my hands, but I think that there’s just so many people in the bathroom at once, that some don’t want to wait. I think that Sox fans are still dirtier (go cubs).
Sweet victory…the smell of defeat (literally). Wrigley is a fun stadium, but maybe too much fun. Go Sox!!!
Just because the north sider fans might have more money, doesn’t mean they are cleaner! go sox! We know who the cleaner and more talented team is!
2005 = fluke. White Sox = Black Sox, Wrigley = Fun. Yes, Sox fans won the most recent championship and now you can all be happy with yourselves, but the only reason why Wrigley is so much "dirtier" is because our team actually HAS a fan base.
I went a Sox game a few years back and I’ll never forget these two guys sitting in front of me conducting business…I was like "really?". I have been a diehard Cubs fan for nearly 35 years and can say that money is not a factor. People think that Wrigley is filled with rich people, when it really isn’t. In fact, there are a lot of college (educated) people who go to the Cubs games who may not have as much money as those two business guys. Congrats to the Sox fans however for washing their hands.
Thanks for your input d.Greg>
Susan, you couldn’t be more correct with that equation. Anyone who is rooting for the Sox right now is purely on the band wagon and should get off. Think about how old the stadium is, and even more important (what Susan said) about the amount of people willing to pay to see the team.
Thanks for the article. Someone help me understand how so many men can go to the bathroom and leave without washing their hands. Then they touch everything and even eat with same germ infested hands. Yuk!
I am a guy and I do not get it either.
I’m kind of surprised by your study. Have you factored in the VIP sections too? Go Cubs!
We have. In some parks the facilities are ALL the same in others the VIP sections are fancier but not cleaner.
Listening to 670 The Score and called in. They are talking about fan bases. This article should be on the show.
Thanks, we would love to be on The Score.
It was on WBBM, 780am and 105.9fm last Tuesday.
What the hell is Diablo 3 doing here? Anyway, I’m a Cubs fan and I don’t care what this says, go cubs!
Go Cubs is right!!!
There is a sad little man writing this post I’m sure. Here’s the deal, yes I don’t feel like my life is in jeopardy with the sox stadium, bu the people are rude. And omg, if I were to wear blue or red or just about any color other than black and/or white, I would be committing a crime against the sox fans. What I love about them is how they complain about "the cubs are national and we aren’t, so it means more when our fans show up"…..really? Again, a sad little man is writing for his sad little (yes little) team fan base.
It does mean more when the fans come to the games. It also means more UFE issues for washrooms like ones at Wrigley Field. Oh, and Sox fans need to be nice right now!!
Ok, sox fans may be have "cleaner" habits at a game, but they are still trash. One thing I hate is when the sox won in 2005 and we heard that damn song over and over. I cheered for them to win once the cubs were done, but guess what? Once the sox won, all of the people I knew who were sox fans rubbed it in my face. I said "I supported you", and they laughed and said "ha ha, cubs haven’t won in how many years.?"
So basically since then, I have referred to all sox fans as trash due to the chip on their shoulder they have towards the cubs.
Wow. Well, we know that cubs fans can be dirty, but I truly think sox fans are pretty dirty (sometimes more) in some cases.
